The documentary RAISING RESISTENCE directed by Bettina Borgfeld and David Bernet is about the Fight of the campesinos, the small farmers of Paraguay, against the escalating aggressively expanding production of genetic soy in the country. On the basis of this conflict it describes the global impact that the use of most modern genetic engineering in the 21st century has on people and on nature. A parable about the suppression of life, about the diversity of plants and cultures, and about how resistance arises both in people and in nature.

Bettina BORGFELD
BETTINA BORGFELD (Screenplay / Director) Born in 1964 in Bad Homburg. A%er completion of her Master‘s degree in American studies, "lm and theater studies, as well as art education, she worked as a journalist and cinematographer for an international news agency in Germany and abroad. In 2004 Bettina Borgfeld directed the documentary "lm SCHUSSWECHSEL (Shooting Under Fire), for which she won the German Television Awards 2005 and the German Human Rights Film Award 2006. !rough the pictures and perceptions of both the Palestinian and the Israeli photographers the "lm takes a look at both sides of the con#ict. Her second "lm ICH BIN IMMER NOCH ICH (2007), a commissioned work for Doctors Without Borders, portrays HIV-positive youth in a township near Cape Town and shows their everyday life with the disease. Bettina Borgfeld has worked among others in Albania, Iraq, Sudan and Afghanistan, and it is has always been her deepest conviction that fast judgments and condemnations are the wrong approach and only lead to an aggravation of con#icts. To give an understanding of the motives of the parties involved in a con#ict, to have a close look and take part in the lives of the protagonists over a longer period . these were the fundamental aspects also for the work on RAISING RESISTANCE.
David BERNET
DAVID BERNET (Screenplay / Director) Born in the Canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. A%er completion of his Master‘s degree in general and comparative literature studies at the Freie Universitat Berlin, he worked as a print media journalist and as a radio writer of documentary features. In 1994 he devoted himself to the documentary "lm, as researcher, story developer, dramaturge and author (inter alia for Frederic Gonseth, Stefan Schwietert, Nikolaus Geyrhalter). Since 2000 David Bernet realises his own "lm projects as author and director, including JEW BY CHOICE (2007) in collaboration with Robert Ralston . a story about three Jewish converts, DIE FLUSTERER (2005, !e Whisperers) . a documentary journey through the world of European simultaneous interpreters, and REGARDS EN ARRIERE (2004) . a documentary on Switzerland in World War II. At the moment he is developing UNTER FREUNDEN / AMONG FRIENDS, a documentary "lm about the creation of a piece of EU legislation. Since 2006 David Bernet is producer and manager of Atmos"lm and gives lectures on documentary work and dramaturgy (University of Fribourg, Freie Universitat Berlin). For Atmos"lm he, for example, co-produced JUST WEATHER directed by Marianne Eyde and is currently producing the documentary "lm NICHT GANZ KOSCHER (Being Kosher) directed by Ruth Olshan.
